Building the climate economy, one operator at a time

econome is a climate education and media platform training the people building Australia's net-zero economy and telling their stories.

WHO WE ARE

From learning design to climate transition

econome started with a simple observation: the climate transition needs skilled people, but most professionals don't know how to make the shift. Traditional education wasn't built for this moment.

Founded by Alex Horton, a learning experience designer with nearly a decade building programs for organizations like Google, Melbourne Business School, and QUT, econome bridges that gap. We combine live, project-based learning with direct access to Australia's climate ecosystem to help mid-career professionals build real capability in climate.

Since launching, we've supported over 500 learners and helped more than 200 professionals transition into climate-aligned roles. What started as the Climate Stream has evolved into a broader platform delivering sector-specific sprints, organizational capability building, and ecosystem storytelling.

Off the back of four Climate Stream cohorts focused on decarbonization, electrification, nature-based financing, and grid connectivity, we're now partnering with organizations like Greenhouse and Climatalist to scale impact across Australia's climate economy.

HOW WE WORK

Three principles that shape everything we do

🎯

Live, project-based learning

We don't teach theory. Participants work on real case studies, learn from operators already delivering climate outcomes, and build skills grounded in how the transition is actually unfolding.

🌏

Ecosystem-connected, not isolated

Our programs are built in partnership with industry leaders, startups, and climate organizations. Participants gain direct access to the Greenhouse ecosystem and a network of practitioners shaping Australia's climate economy.

🚀

Created by those who've done it

We partner with subject-matter experts and operators who've walked the path. They're the founders, consultants, and changemakers building climate solutions, not just talking about them.

Mike Young

"econome's program was the perfect launchpad for my career transition. The course throws you into a real-world case study, forcing you to navigate the kind of ambiguous and detailed challenges you won't find in a textbook. It's a program where you truly get out what you put in, and the insights I gained were instrumental in helping me land my current role in the climate industry. Highly recommended for anyone serious about making the leap."

LOOKING AHEAD

Scaling climate capability across Australia

We're expanding our work beyond individual career transitions to build organizational capability at scale. Through partnerships with Greenhouse, Climatalist, and sector initiatives like Better Data Centres, we're helping companies, consulting firms, and industry bodies embed climate skills across their teams.

Our sprint model is evolving to cover critical capability areas including sustainable data infrastructure, ESG strategy, decarbonization pathways, and circular economy. Each sprint is grounded in live projects, taught by operators, and designed to translate directly into the work participants do.
